Anachronisms tidbit today...
Mar. 19th, 2003 09:59 am"Good evening everyone, this it Stanly Cubric with the Federation News Service, broadcasting on subspace for One Hundred and Fifty years straight from Market Street in San Francisco! Our top story this week has been Federation Peacekeeping forces colliding with a small group of Deltan ships three days ago which Federation officials claimed were an arms envoy between Trill and Delta-Prime. A blood firefight ensued, in which the USS Mississipi, the USS Covington, and the USS Araga sustained heavy damage. Federation officials called it "A decisive victory against the rebellion." FNS has just learned from our roving interstaller reporter Mackie McLane, is live on scene with terrifying new developments! Mackie?"
"Thanks, Stan! As you can see from the debris field outside this window behind me, there is nothing left of the ship which Federation forces quite proudly 'dispatched' three days ago. However, I'm standing here looking at sensor readouts that show that these were not military cargos. There is no trace of dilithium or trilithium traces, and no barion emissions at all - indicating that these ships had only minimal weaponry. Further research, as you can see from these readings, indicate that these ships carried medical supplies, personal belongings, and agricultural supplies from Trill to Betazed. Further research on the captains of these ships, indicates they have never been a part of the Deltan, Federation, or Trill military, and have been mercenaries and space pilots all their lives. The loss of life here is total, Stan, and I myself have some serious questions for Federation Officials. If we are slaughtering unarmed freighters and calling it a victory, what other things could the Federation Council be keeping from us? Back to you Stan."
"Thank you, Mackie - is it pretty dangerous out there?"
"You know me, Stan - I'm in this business for the truth. As late daughter of Garrison Information Systems board member Charley Maza, Aria Maza once said in her college papers 'There is no cost of effort for the getting of truth, only reward.' Being here in the war zone is very dangerous, Stan, and I will continue to be out here until the war is over. I have a feeling that the rebellion's extreme views and the Federation's Reports and not the truth, but that the truth lies out here - right under our noses - and I'll bring it to you."
"And you do so as sexy as always, Mackie. Thanks for that report. In related news, war protests in U.N. Plaza defaced the federation symbol in the marble with construction polycement and small hand torches until San Francisco police officers arrested them. Protestors involved in the defacement, according to Seargent Black Eagle of the SFPD, state that war protests are fine, but defacement is not a part of a peaceful protest. The protestors face the judge for arraingment later this week..."
