Work stuff

Well, more people lost their jobs at my work. I'm wondering if I will be coming back here monday. I'd like to stay here at least a week more to try and make sure rent and stuff is covered before planing to Montreal. I expected them to ask me to do overtime this week, and they did - at about 2pm friday afternoon, wanting me to stay late. I told them I needed a few days notice at least before they pulled this stuff, and I really DO have things I have to be doing this evening, and I've already put in my 40 hours, so I turned him down on overtime, saying I'll be in first thing monday morning.
tigris: (Fun)
Snagged from Kya. It was short and simple - why not? Ask me this stuff a month later I'll have all different answers for you.

1. ...song?
Comic Castaway by Electrasy, from the Titan AE soundtrack. That song is my life condensed into four minutes.

2. ...food?
Right now? Hm. Probably Catepillar Rolls (Sushi).

3. ...tv show?
To quote Kya, "I. Don't. Watch. TV."

4. ...scent?
Don't have any. Too many friends with allergies.

5. ...quote?
Got lots. Right now it's "Cream and Catnip are all my body needs" (by me) and "I'm not bigoted - I hate everyone equally" (by other folks).

Okay, well day one of Further Confusion 2004 was a work day. Traffic was nasty as I got off work, so when I got home I was tired and grouchy and slept for a bit. Once Jeff got home, we boxed up Yarfs and went to the con. When I arrived, the registration line was non-existant, given they have maybe ten people with laptops working away. We stuffed our stuff under the Yarf table, and got my badge picked up. Hung out a bit with [livejournal.com profile] aayrick and other friends, just lightly socializing. I had TOLD Tanan I wanted to be in bed by 10. I had told this many times. By the time he finally got me home, I made it to bed by 11pm. I was unhappy with Tanan for that.

Today's schedule involved work until 4:30, get home, pick up stuff, go to the con, and then get painted. I'm looking for photos of clouded leopards right now, because that's what me and the airbrush artist Cat were talking about last night. Don't have the ear/tails to go with it, but I'm sure we'll figure it out. Gotta use the GOOD paint this time to make sure it survives the weekend. I plan to hit up [livejournal.com profile] tugrik as soon as I can to do photos while the paint still looks it's best.

RANT

I have a nagging desire for a hateful rant. Ignore at your leisure.

Hate filled spewing coupled with bad language and occasional bad grammar. Avoid if possible. )

On to more fun stuff. I won't be on Horizons Thurs-Monday, just get used to it. I'll be at Further Confusion painting my furry little tail off. :) Be back teusday.

The battle for the Satyr Mines continues! I got some attaboys from the other defenders last night which felt great. I've been doing nothing but healing and resurrecting people, and sometimes under the most dangerous of circumstances. I'm literally getting shot and hacked apart as I'm resurrecting the other fighters. I keep wrackin' up the death points, but who cares. This is SO FUN!

Well it turns out that the end of quarter at work was not Dec31 - but Jan23. So the push is on at work to get all this stuff done by then and it just isn't happening. I'll be lucky if they don't force me to work overtime during FC and still have a job on monday. Was not feeling well last night so stayed home and gamed - we were fighting to repair the destroyed tunnels, and so there were a lot of us working together - crafting stuff and defending the tunnels against undead Satyrs.

have i mentioned that the people at work never shower and always smell like stinky shoes?
tigris: (Peaceful kitty)
*yawn* good morning all. i'm here at work and i'm too tired to capitalize correctly, so today's entry is entirely capital-free! yay! (yes i'm being lazy. so sue me. i'm at work.)

lesse. we barely made rent this month, and fc is coming up at the end of the month, so we're having to really cut down costs to make it through this month. this wasn't helped by the pc going dead. airline tickets were bought, and the final $6K check for montreal is being cut. we're cutting back on a lot of expenses. no hotel room for fc this year - can't afford it, and we only live ten minutes away anyway. we're avoiding unneccessary driving around to reduce gas costs and so on. i am reminded of tanan's sister's husband's philosophy of finance:

me: sorry, we can't afford that this month
tanan's sister's husband: well you've still got checks, don't you?
me: yeah....?
tanan's sister's husband: then you've still got money.
me: *baffled at the incompetant stupidness of that statement...* dude...... whatever.

i invested $100 for a new video card, and tanan invested $100 for the new motherboard. sure enough, it was my old faithful motherboard that was the culprit. dwayne stuart from fc staff contributed a 2ghz amd processor and a stick of 512mb ddr ram to the project, which culminated in my being able to get it back up and running. As a result, the machine was the emergency expense we didn't expect, and we have all the parts to build another machine for tanan, but i'll need another amd motherboard to replace the one that died, and i can use the old 1.2 chip on it and upgrade tanan's 500 mhz pentium3 past the gigahertz barrier and from pc100 (which i have very little of) to pc133 ram (which i have in excess).

tanan says the only reason he helped get the motherboard replaced was to keep me from moping about not being able to get online with the game. i think i was mopy about other things, and that tanan just wanted his machine upgraded in the fallout of getting mine fixed - which is the plan at this point. tanan's gaming pc was acting funny and crashing last night. i was just glad to get my machine fixed was all - i must have looked so haggard to shaun when he came over yesterday - after spending hours on the thing over the past three or four days trying to fix it.

well, i get the machine fixed, pop onto horizons, and suddenly people are shouting in the chat channels about a 'world event' going on in aughundell. i pop over to aug and sure enough there are lvl 45 ogres towering over fields full of human plays that are all fighting the ogres - all at once. lllllllllaaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggggg ccccccccciiiiiiiiiittttttttttyyyyyyyy....... i lost count of how many death points i accrued. i think it was five on saturday night and then eight on sunday night. because i was like the lowest-level character on the battlefield, all the baddies went straight for me as the easy kill. now half these 20+ lvl players have the resurrection ability, so as soon as i'd die i immediately was alive and fighting again, heavier by one more death point. i levelled in both cleric and scout school during all this. lotta xp to be had fighting these beasties. it sure is nice to be able to take on lvl 10 zombies outside kion as target practice on my own and not get killed. so now it's time to go back to a week of work and by next weekend all those deathpoints should be expired. :)
tigris: (Default)
AAAAH! We have the magical tickets of planing to Montreal! Wheeee! $325 round trip. :)

And good news in the computer department - we determined that in faact the loyal faithful motherboard I've had since 2002 was the one that died - not the ATI video card. The MB has been replaced and suddenly I'm able to game again. Meanwhile Shaun and I will test the ATI video card and make sure it was okay, and see if we can upgrade Tanan's machine. I also wanna fine-tune Horizons to cut down on some of the lockups that still persist.
tigris: (Fun)
That's right, work moved me into a real office today, with a computer that actually have more RAM than 32MB. I have a real desk. So I can actually do work, look at my email, chat with friends, and talk on Furrymuck AT THE SAME TIME! How's that for cool? I share it with three other people but at least it has walls now instead of chainlink fences, real glass windows, and a big steel door that I can close. And it's warm! And I have a new spaceheater if it does get cold. Heh. This job is getting almost livable. Of course that's usually the point it gets yanked out from under me, but I'm holding out hopes.

Yes, so far today makes up for yesterday. We'll see if I have any more luck with the wee beastie when I get home tonight. In the meantime... ganked from sapphers...

No improvement. I was so tired by the time I got home that I wasn't up to even taking up Tanan's offer of going out to dinner, and fiddled with the PC for a while as I chatted with [livejournal.com profile] shaunpup over ICQ trying to fix it, came to the conclusion that my brand new ATI video card from a few months ago has gone the way of all the earth, and must be replaced. That's an unanticipated $100 expense, and 3 days (minimum) of downtime for the machine. I am heading to bed early out of frustration.

It's possible that Horizons burned the video card out. I played the game fine for hours on this machine with [livejournal.com profile] aayrick last night, switched for the larger monitor so I could use higher resolution, and that's when it started to lock up and BSOD. Put the smaller monitor back on it - lower resolution - and it kept doing it. After that it seems to be have been toasted, because even turning the resolution back down didn't help. The ATI Radeon drivers are up to date, and there are countless forums talking about people having trouble with ATI Radeon video cards and the game. At least that's the best I can figure. Shaun will have to take a look himself on sunday when he comes down. I'm really tight on money so this will have to be a really cheap new video card.

Bed now. Maybe tomorrow my luck will improve. I can only hope. *sob*

AND TO TOP IT ALL OFF! Sprint decides to take a dump and the 'net connection at work goes down for almost the whole work day so I can't even talk to folks like I was able to before.

Oh, what a miserable day... *GRAR!*
tigris: (Sadness)
Ho boy today started just swell. After a great evening last night with [livejournal.com profile] aayrick getting my Horizons CD-key added to the account, putting more RAM in his machine, and both of us getting online and bashing monsters together in Istaria, having great fun, I go to bed and get up this morning and my PC BSODs on me, and refuses to boot. Try it again, same thing. Try it a third time, same thing.

Krist on a stick. I did not need this. [livejournal.com profile] shaunpup, wanna work some healing magic on this thing this weekend maybe?

I get no first break today. AND my boss is on me because I messed something up. AND the spaceheater broke, so I am TOTALLY freezing at work today...

I sure hope today looks up.

EDIT: Aw Sapph - you rock! *HUGZ* Thank you! )

Well I get a grant total of one day off this weekend. I decided to spend time with [livejournal.com profile] cinsangel, [livejournal.com profile] shaunpup, and [livejournal.com profile] aayrick. Met Aayrick in the morning at my place, played Horizons a bit, and then drove off to the wilds of Berkeley to meet up with Eden (Cinsangel) and Shaun, but managed to get totally backwards and lost in the wilds of the People's Republic of Berkeley trying to find the meetup spot where we'd gotten together every year for at least the last three years. Finally got there (an hour late) just as food was arriving, so it worked perfectly, and as usually my dour moods were immediately brightened by Eden's laughter. She presented me with...

SURPRISE ART!

I was *SO* surprised I just had to hug the girl! So all four of us had pizza and laughed and walked up and down the Berkeley streets talking about gaming and comics and enjoyed eachother's company for a couple of hours before going back to our respective homes. Aayrick and I went back to my house, gamed a bit more, and turned in for the night. All in all a short but eventful and wonderful weekend.

On the downside I'm now back at work. I hate working here. I'm wearing three layers of clothes and sitting by a space heater and I'm still cold. For some reason this place makes my back/shoulders ache badly, so that I'm forced to take painkillers at work just to get through the day. Not to mention the splitting headaches from all the beeping forklifts. This is NOT what I was supposed to be doing in this job. I may avoid data entry jobs in the future and stick to area administration/support/receptionist gigs. By the time I get home for the day I'm so beat and wiped out all I can do is turn myself to auto-pilot and game for a few hours before collapsing for the night. Aayrick complains I've had more time to play the game than he has! :) But I've made a lot of progress:

Tigris: Schools
------
Scout: Level 11
Blacksmith: Level 10
Mage: Level 6
Outfitter: Level 5

WOOT! And I'm still writing fanfic bits. Nothing I'm proud enough to show off yet, but it's getting there. Most of that gets done at work, actually. Since Roger gave me a $25 gift certificate for Amazon.com for christmas, I used it to buy the game and used the free shipping I have with them. My splurge for December. I'm not sure how well it will run on my machine, but I'll give it a try. The machine really is severely outta date and I'm gonna need a lotta help to get it outta the doldrums. It needs a faster processor (AMD preferrably), new RAM (preferrably DDR400), new video card (preferrably NVidia), and a new MB that will handle all those. That's a long term project because I just don't have the money for that.

So Netlady was the only one that liked this LJ icon? I'm wondering if I should try doing it over. I guess I'm not very good at this.

Today one of my best online friends is moving away from her husband, which also has me depressed and teary.
tigris: (Anger)
Just FYI folks - having trouble with the voice mail on my cell phone. Don't leave me any voicemails - I won't get them - just call back in a minute or two. AT&T and I need to have a talk about the voicemail system.

EDIT: Problem fixed - the voicemail is now okay.

*Runs off to play Horizons* WOOT!
tigris: (Gaming)
EEEEEEEEK!!! Tanan wasn't done! I get home from work tonight and instead of my Apple 17" Studio Display on my mac, there's this HONKIN' HUGE 20" Apple Cinema Display in it's place. My jaw hit the FLOOR! Previously the coveted 20" Apple Cinema Display was the sole domain of my friend Lisa - oh WOW was I surprised! I couldn't think of how I would ever use all that - all I could do was sit there and stare and drool and go "It's so BIG!" [Reference Link]

Me: Where did this come from?
Tanan: Um... Santa Claus?

Okay! I won't ask. I got a 20" Cinema Display for Christmas!

And to celebrate gaming madness, new LJ icon! Like it? Hate it? Let me know, please.

EDIT: No, Lisa's display is a 22' - she's still queen of the Cinema Display. Which is fine with me... *still drooling*

Link of the day.

Am poking around the net trying to get music files from Horizons and not having much luck. I work tomorrow from 6am until 1pm. ICK. I have thursday off, and work 8-5 friday and saturday. Despite Christmas, I will still put in 40 hours this week. I just hope I get time-and-a-half for Saturday.

And I am totally ashamed to admit I am writing Horizons fanfics with [livejournal.com profile] aayrick. My muse is a horribly fickle bitch. *grump*

OMIGODOMIGODOMIGOD!!! That was SO TOTALLY AWESOME! I LOVED IT! EEEEEEEEEE! I feel like a little girl again! I feel like I did when I first finished the trilogy!!! I first read it after finishing the seven Narnia books, and was given The Hobbit - I then read them in order. I wanted desperately to be Arwen. I didn't think they could make me feel that excited again, after all these years - but they did. Oh... and the next movie the New Zealand studio is going to work on? "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe". :)
